2027 Election Already Rigged, Dr Sam Omale Alleges, Accuses APC of Plotting to Manipulate Nigeria’s Electoral Process

The National Deputy Spokesperson of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Sam Omale, has raised a serious alarm over what he describes as an alleged premeditated plot to manipulate Nigeria’s January 2027 general elections, warning that the credibility of the electoral process may have been compromised long before Nigerians go to the polls.

In a strongly worded and deeply concerning commentary, Dr Omale accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly preparing the grounds for electoral manipulation rather than seeking public confidence through its performance, governance record and fulfilment of campaign promises.

He questioned why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his party appear so confident about electoral victory without adequately defending their record or actively seeking the mandate of Nigerians.

According to him, President Tinubu’s reported declaration that “the deal is done” should not be dismissed, particularly given his previous confidence about winning elections even when political circumstances appeared unfavourable to him.

Dr Omale suggested that such pronouncements raise disturbing questions about what the ruling establishment may know about the forthcoming election that ordinary Nigerians do not.

He characterised the alleged strategy as a determination to win by all means necessary, describing it as “snatch, grab and run with it.”

Central to his concerns is the integrity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register.

Dr Omale alleged that millions of questionable voter records had been generated through the activities of compromised electoral officials, claiming that INEC’s ICT Director admitted during a national television appearance that some staff members had created more than 20 million AI-generated voter cards.

He also criticised what he considered inadequate assurances from the commission that the disputed records were merely preliminary and would be corrected subsequently.

Illustrating the potentially devastating consequences, he cited a hypothetical polling unit with 600 registered voters, 400 of whom could represent fictitious or invalid entries.

He warned that if voter cards were issued against such records and the accreditation safeguards were circumvented, the resulting ballots could be counted, thereby compromising the authenticity of the election results.

He further questioned how alleged manipulation of dates of birth in the National Identification Number (NIN) database could facilitate multiple or unauthorised voter registrations.

Dr Omale also expressed concern over the apparent certainty with which some political figures have spoken about securing electoral victories in particular territories.

He specifically questioned a serving minister’s reported confidence that the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State were already secured for the APC, alongside Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s reported projection of delivering more than two million votes for the ruling party.

To him, such declarations, viewed against the allegations surrounding the voters’ register, demand urgent public scrutiny.

Lamenting what he described as a dangerous imbalance in the political contest, Dr Omale observed that while opposition parties are engaging citizens and presenting alternative programmes, the alleged manipulation of electoral structures could render genuine political participation meaningless.

He therefore called on Nigerians to resist any attempt to predetermine their democratic future and urged INEC to undertake an immediate, transparent and verifiable audit and cleansing of the voters’ register before the January 2027 elections.

He maintained that the controversy transcends partisan interests, touching directly on democratic legitimacy, institutional credibility and the constitutional right of citizens to freely elect their leaders.

For him, no election can command public confidence when the integrity of the register, accreditation process and ballot remains in doubt.

Dr Omale consequently urged Nigerians to demand accountability and peacefully protest against any action capable of undermining the electoral process, insisting that INEC must address the allegations with concrete evidence rather than mere assurances.

His message is a stark warning that democracy cannot survive on political declarations or administrative explanations alone; it must be anchored on credible institutions, transparent procedures and the inviolability of the people’s mandate.

As the nation approaches the 2027 electoral contest, the allegations have placed renewed emphasis on the urgent need for INEC to clarify the reported irregularities and demonstrate, beyond reasonable doubt, that every eligible Nigerian’s vote will count and that no individual or political party can manipulate the outcome before election day.
