Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, Borno State Commissioner for Education, has visited IBUAM in Lagos to assess the quality of training being provided to Borno State-sponsored students.
As part of his routine oversight responsibilities and unwavering commitment to the welfare and academic progress of Borno State-sponsored students, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, FNSE, accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board (BSSB), Dr. Bala Isa, paid an official visit to the Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM), Lagos.
The oversight visit, which took place on Monday, 8th and Tuesday, 9th June 2026, was aimed at assessing the quality of training being provided by IBUAM to its sponsored students.
During the visit, the Commissioner and his entourage toured the IBUAM campus located in Oshodi, Lagos, where they inspected academic facilities, lecture halls, laboratories, and student hostels.
The delegation also held interactive sessions with members of the university management, academic staff, and students, providing a valuable opportunity to discuss academic progress, welfare matters, and other issues relating to the students’ training and overall development.
The delegation subsequently proceeded to the IBUAM aircraft hangar at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, where Engr. Wakilbe inspected the available training equipment and aircraft maintenance workshops.
At both the university campus and the aircraft hangar, the delegation was warmly received by IBUAM’s management team, technical personnel, and instructors, who provided detailed briefings on the institution’s academic programmes, training methodologies, and future development plans.
The Borno state Government is currently sponsoring fifty-four students at IBUAM, with the students reported to be enjoying the institution’s state-of-the-art facilities.
Notably, IBUAM holds the distinction of being the first university in Africa to offer Africans the opportunity to study aeronautics and aviation management on the continent, marking a landmark achievement in African aviation education.
